Tiffany Christopher together with the Latino Arts for Humanity build this big Catrina
Tiffany Christopher is an artist inspired by Mexican folk art & specifically the Dia de los muertos holiday. In 2018 Tiffany was awarded the Aminah Robinson grant from the greater Columbus arts council, which allowed for her to visit the American Southwest to meet with other artists & seek out inspiration for new projects. While Tiffany was visiting the International Folk art museum in Santa Fe, NM, she became inspired by the many of the Cartoneria's calaveras on display, as well as the artwork depicting the Catrina character from Jose Posada.
When Tiffany returned from her trip she wanted to create a large puppet to be displayed during the parade for the dia de los muertos community event in Columbus, OH now called Day of the dead Columbus Festival. With help from many community members pf the latino arts for humanity over a span of 2 months - assisting from Cartoneria, sewing & construction, Tiffany & the community brought the Catrina from her idea to real life for everyone to enjoy.
