Day of the Dead Community Event 2018

In preparation for Dia de los Muertos, let's review:

Offrenda – home altars, to honor loved ones who have died. Decorations may include incense, candles, gifts, bright flowers and decorations, pictures of saints, and photographs and offerings of the decease’s favorite food and drink.

Calacas - skeletons made of paper mâché, clay, wood or paper depicting dead loved ones doing every day tasks such as riding a bike or getting married.

Flor del Muerto – Flower of the Dead. The traditional flower of Day of the Dead is the Marigold , which is spread on paths and used to decorate altars and the cemetery. The pleasant aromas of foods, copal incense, and marigolds help attract and guide the souls home.

Calavera - Literally means “skull” in Spanish, but it is also used to refer to a lot of things relating to the dead: songs, poems, drawings, candy skulls, and more.
